While most activities and events have been cancelled or postponed at Principia, the solar car team is moving forward in anticipation of racing this summer in the 2020 American Solar Challenge. So far, the race is still on, and we will do whatever it takes to be ready!
With only a few team members on campus, finishing construction of the new RA XI in time for the race may not be possible. If that’s the case, our team will use every trick possible to modify RA X and be race compliant come July. Regardless of what happens in the short term, we’re all committed to (and excited about) building a new RA XI.
Funds contributed in the past have enabled us to make very good progress in car construction( frame, array, batteries, molds etc) and getting ready for the race. You could say that we’re in deep! And the current situation challenges us to be even more innovative, collaborative, and resourceful.
Asking for donations right now is difficult given the shifts taking place around us all, but if you are considering making a gift, we want to reassure you that it will still be matched dollar for dollar up to $50,000 by Cary (née Carolyn Stewart C’77) and Will Singleton. You can give online at principiagiving.org/solarcar.
We look forward to putting our skills to the test and making Principia and our family of supporters proud. One thing you’ve probably seen and heard a lot recently is true—we’re all in this together!
